Hutchinson Maple Syrup is a family-owned and operated maple syrup farm. Orval, Doug, and Michele, with the help of their family, turn the maple sap that flows from their hardwood maple bush into sweet maple syrup to share with you! In 1974 Orval Hutchinson began producing maple syrup in Oro, Ontario, using cast irons pots with only 200 taps. From 1975 to 1988, Orval with the help of his family and son, Doug, expanded to 800 taps and moved his operation into a sugar shack with a wood-fired evaporator. Fast forward 23 years later, when Doug and his wife, Michele, purchased a sugar bush on the 5th Line North of Oro-Medonte, it wasn’t long until the evaporator was once again fired up. In 2012, Orval, Doug, and Michele began making maple syrup as a “hobby”. Because they love to share their sweet maple syrup with everyone, Hutchinson Maple Syrup has grown from 300 taps to over 1600 taps with the maple sap flowing through their gravity pipelines and, of course, into buckets.

Located in the beautiful hills of Oro-Medonte Ontario, we produce quality Beef, Pork, and Maple Syrup from our family farm, founded in 1831.
Saskia and Hans Sloeserwij arrived in Canada from Holland in 2008. As they adjusted to their new life in Canada, they found themselves missing the European style cheeses they grew up with. Back in Holland, Saskia and Hans created amazing cheeses using local ingredients and traditional European processes, but they couldn’t find similar products in Canada. They felt like the Canadian market lacked “authentic, traditional, European cheeses”. In an effort to fill a gap in the market, Saskia and Hans took it upon themselves to create those cheeses that they missed so dearly, calling their new business Say Cheese. Say Cheese uses the same process for its sheep cheese as is traditionally used for making Gouda. Their sheep cheese is produced as a medium firm cheese which is similar to the Dutch Gouda.

Here at Elsie’s Creek Farm, Quality and Flavor are our number one concerns. A typical maple syrup season starts around the end of February where our family plugs the drills in, cleans out the lines, and taps over 1200 hardwood maple trees at our farm. From then until mid April, our natural wood fired evaporator does not stop turning the sap we collect, into award winning liquid gold maple syrup. After being filtered more than 16 times, through gravity fed filters, the maple syrup is tested and then bottled. After this long process it is ready to enter your home and be poured over pancakes, oatmeal, or any breakfast food for that matter. Although there are a lot of long days and nights spent in the sugar shack, our satisfaction is met through the comments we receive after a bottle of maple syrup is opened. Carl and his wife Rebecca started producing maple syrup in 1999 and have since expanded their operation to over 1200 taps, raised two sons who intend to expand the business further, and have won over 20 top place ribbons at the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto. Together as a family, we attend farmers markets in […]

In 2013, the arrival of their son made their combined family seven, with 6 boys and 1 girl. – That’s when they became The Venne Bunch. Marcel served his country for 23 years. Now retired from military service, he still works as a civilian on CFB Borden. When not on base, Marcel can been seen helping out and learning the ropes of the restaurant or on the ice with the boys volunteering on their sons’ hockey teams. Location & History The The Severn Public Library is located at 31 Coldwater Road, in the middle of Coldwater’s business district. From our front windows, we have a superb view of the old gristmill with the Coldwater River flowing past. Library services in the village date back to the 1800’s when this was an Indian Village called Gis-se-nau-se-bing (cold river) and lending books brought from Scotland were kept in the Indian Agent’s home. Several other village locations housed books before the present library was built in 1937, as a memorial by the Sheppard family, to their parents Wm. Sheppard and Mary Ellen Buchanan. An additional two rooms were added in 1986-87, one being the Foster Meharry Russell Reading Room, a memorial gift from the family of this former Coldwater newspaper owner. In 1994 Coldwater became part of the new Township of Severn . The Severn Township Library Board now operates this library. Not to mention all of the smaller forest creatures! The sound of birdsong echoes through the trees, leading you up and up until you emerge into at an incredible vista. Our trail rides focus on creating a connection between you and your horse, emphasizing the incredible relationship between horse and rider as you move through the entire process of riding a horse – including the foundations of grooming, saddling, rider’s safety orientation, and grazing after your ride. We aim to leave our guests at Glen Oro with not only […]

Where We’re Coming From THE CHEESY PICKUP Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, Soups, Salads. We know that there are many fine options to eat in Orillia, and we enjoy eating at many of them. When we decided to undertake this journey, we wanted to offer something different, a little cheeky, and fun. We all remember grilled cheese when we were young, well now we’ve grown up (perhaps), and so has grilled cheese. Many of our sandwiches have different combinations of meat and cheeses, as well as a couple of different “sauces” whether it be Maple Syrup sourced locally, or the increasingly popular homemade Maple/Mustard Sauce. We’ve set out to offer good value, yummy food, at a reasonable price. We hope we’ve achieved that and that you enjoy your experience at The Cheesy Pickup.

Big Chute Marine is the only marine railway of its kind in North America. This lock operates as a open carriage that runs on a railway going into the water allowing the boats to drive onto it and be lifted up by straps. The lift then proceeds to move across 60 feet of dry land to place the boat back into the water on the other side of the ridge between Severn River and Gloucester Pool.
