Welcome to Quayle’s, a farm brewery unlike any you have ever seen. Our dream was to create a world class hop yard and farm brewery, where we could craft the finest beers, from start to finish. Quayle’s Brewery is nestled in the hills of Oro-Medonte, Ontario between lower Georgian Bay and Lake Simcoe – a short drive from Toronto and only minutes from towns like Orillia and Coldwater. With its peaceful surroundings, fresh air, and rich history, it is the perfect setting to brew our craft beer. We use our own spring water and farm fresh hops to create a lasting farm-to-glass experience. We overlook more than 12 acres of hop yards, sitting atop a picturesque hillcrest. Wanting to celebrate our local history, the brewery was built in 2016 as a re-creation of a 19th century local landmark, the Musical Barn. Our barn features a large outdoor patio, tasting room, acoustic lounge, and indoor/outdoor event space. It is here that our talented, local, award-winning brewing and production team refine our hops into a variety of outstanding Quayle’s beer. We have a pilot system and a full production system on-site and offer new varieties of fresh beer regularly. Learn more about […]

In the very heart of Orillia sits a fairy-tale building, and inside that building, legends are born. Since 1895, the city has dreamed, laughed, wept and fought inside the Orillia Opera House. Many of the city’s defining moments have taken place under its landmark twin spires. The 700 seat auditorium was a movie house from the 20’s until the late 50’s. It was a favourite place on a Saturday for a kid to spend an afternoon for a quarter. Known for its fine acoustics has featured such artists as the Marx Brothers, Glenn Gould, Oscar Peterson, k.d. lang, Mickey Rooney, Dan Hill, Liona Boyd, Blue Rodeo, George Canyon, Paul Brandt, Ron James, Manteca, Lighthouse, The Stampeders and our own hometown boy, Gordon Lightfoot, which had the main auditorium named in his honour in 1997. As well as, many would-be greats such as school bands and local theatre groups. The Orillia Opera House is well known for their summer theatre programs. Make sure to check out the events listing on our website or visit the Opera House Website for information on these programs.
The Orillia Museum of Art & History is located in the historic 1894 Sir Sam Steele Memorial Building in the heart of downtown Orillia’s shopping and restaurant district. This unique art gallery and museum presents significant art & history exhibitions of both regional and national importance.

Hutchinson Maple Syrup is a family-owned and operated maple syrup farm. Orval, Doug, and Michele, with the help of their family, turn the maple sap that flows from their hardwood maple bush into sweet maple syrup to share with you! In 1974 Orval Hutchinson began producing maple syrup in Oro, Ontario, using cast irons pots with only 200 taps. From 1975 to 1988, Orval with the help of his family and son, Doug, expanded to 800 taps and moved his operation into a sugar shack with a wood-fired evaporator. Fast forward 23 years later, when Doug and his wife, Michele, purchased a sugar bush on the 5th Line North of Oro-Medonte, it wasn’t long until the evaporator was once again fired up. In 2012, Orval, Doug, and Michele began making maple syrup as a “hobby”. Because they love to share their sweet maple syrup with everyone, Hutchinson Maple Syrup has grown from 300 taps to over 1600 taps with the maple sap flowing through their gravity pipelines and, of course, into buckets.

The group works with children, their families and extended families, seniors and all members of the community to bring a better understanding and stewardship to the environment around us. We were founded in 2006 and originally operated under the Twin Lakes Conservation Club. In 2007 we became incorporated and are now operating independently, with many successful projects behind us. We have many members, a board of directors and seasonal staff. Our group provides an opportunity for young people and their families to interact with nature in a positive learning environment that endorses a healthy active lifestyle. Despite our name, Kids for Turtles is dedicated to helping the environment and thus does not focus entirely on turtles nor do we only work with kids. We strive to improve our entire ecosystem by such activities as planting native plant species for butterfly gardens, habitat restoration along creeks in Simcoe Country, and through festivals such as the Butterfly count and Celebrate Lake Simcoe. Kids for Turtles is fun for people of all ages!

Ontario’s first European Community, Sainte-Marie among the Hurons was the headquarters for the French Jesuit Mission to the Huron Wendat people. In 1639, the Jesuits, along with French lay workers, began construction of a fenced community that included barracks, a church, workshops, residences, and a sheltered area for Native visitors. By 1648, Sainte-Marie was a wilderness home to 66 French men, representing one-fifth of the entire population of New France. Today throughout July and August, Sainte-Marie among the Hurons is pleased to offer fun and informative demonstrations and “hands-on” activities that share aspects of life in the 17th century, including 17th century fire-starting, historic clothing and medicine, native games, 17th century music, historic cooking, and more.

SCOUT VALLEY is 2 km west of Orillia. You’ll find this 93 hectare nature park and former Scout camp, with its three trails each 2.0 km long. Here one finds a superb recreational and educational community resource with a Provincially Significant Wetland, a remnant of majestic white pine, two substantial areas of hardwood bush and various land forms to catch your interest. The three trails inter connect, although you can start and finish each one independently, from three separate parking lots. Walking is mainly hilly of moderate difficulty. You can see the old retreating Ice Age Lake Algonquin shoreline, that covered much of south central Ontario formerly and gave us much of today’s topography, an interesting study to follow up on. Enjoy this year round trail by walking, hiking or snowshoeing. See Simcoe County Loop Trail Map

The Simcoe County Museum was created in 1928 by Women’s Institute members Mrs. C.P. Stocking and Mrs. R.A. Sutherland. The collection was first displayed at the Barrie Public Library, then the Barrie Registry Office. In the 1950s, the County of Simcoe took responsibility for the collection, and the first wing of the Museum was opened on Highway 26 (at the current location) in 1962. Over the years, the museum has grown significantly, and now is composed of a five gallery facility with sixteen outdoor heritage and display buildings. At the Simcoe County Museum, we believe that our visitors should be able to experience history first hand in a museum that is engaging and exciting. Come to the Museum and discover the stories behind our collection of over 30,000 artifacts!
