Five Fresh Farmers’ Markets in Orillia & Lake Country

The summer farmers’ market season is here, and Orillia & Lake Country’s farmers and vendors have been hard at work to offer the best in locally sourced food and handmade products. Farmers’ Markets have been a long-standing tradition for farmers and local vendors to share healthy food harvested within a short drive, with everything you need to enjoy that farm to table experience at home. We are fortunate to have several great farmers’ markets throughout our region with their own special charm and character.  Check out these five fresh markets for the best in local flavours and gifts that you won’t find anywhere else.

Oro-Medonte Farmers’ Market

When: Opening: Canada Day Friday, July 1st 10am – 6pm
Regular Market: Thursdays in July and August, 12pm – 6pm
Final Market: Thanksgiving Weekend, TBA

Where: Chappell Farms, 617 Penetanguishene Road, Oro-Medonte, ON

Stop by Chappell Farms Thursdays this summer for some fun local shopping. This market welcomes families to come and support shopping local as a community event that will bring people together. Not everyone can be an early riser, so this afternoon and evening market is a great stop when heading up to the cottage or to pick up what you need for a home-grown lunch or dinner.

Orillia Farmers’ Market

When: Year Round, Saturdays from 9:00am – 1:00pm

Where: 36 Mississaga St W by the Orillia Public Library

Located in downtown Orillia, the Orillia Farmers’ Market is one of the longest running markets in the province, with its beginnings in 1842. This summer’s market features over 30 vendors with a wide variety of goods, including gluten free baked treats, young entrepreneurial vendors, and recently local breweries have been invited to the market as well.

As an added bonus this summer, there will be three Friday Night Markets running July 7th, July 21st, and August 18th. Stroll through Downtown Orillia as part of the city’s Friday night #SeeYouOnThePatio program, and be sure to stop by the Orillia Farmers’ Market exciting night markets!

Coldwater Mill Farmers’ Market

When: Fridays, 3:00pm – 7:00pm from the beginning of June until Thanksgiving.

Where: 1 Mill Street, Coldwater, ON by the Musical Barn of the Coldwater Mill

In the quaint village of Coldwater, this small local outdoor market has been operating for many years on the property of the historic Coldwater Mill, built in 1833. The market provides locally grown products for residents and many cottagers to the area. The market’s opening in May traditionally aligns with the popular Lions’ Club Duck Race and the season runs through to the beautiful fall colours of Thanksgiving weekend.

The market offers a variety of products including local fresh and organic produce, herbs, baking, preserves, honey, maple syrup, beef, pork and chicken. Also, be sure to check out the Coldwater Mill’s Local Artisan Boutique featuring dozens of vendors inside the mill. Want to stay for lunch? Orillia Fairgrounds Farmers’ Market

When: Year round, Saturdays 8am-1pm

Where: ODAS Park, 4500 Fairgrounds Rd, Severn, ON

ODAS Park, just outside of Orillia, boasts more than 40 producers and farmers who “make it, bake it, or grow it” so you don’t have to. City meets country at the Orillia Fairgrounds ODAS Park. Local farmers, fresh fruit and vegetables, baked good, honey, artisans and live music!

Black River Wilderness Park Vendor’s Market

When: Summer only, Saturdays 9am-1pm

Where: Black River Wilderness Park, 7476 Simcoe County Rd 169, Washago, ON

Black River Wilderness Park is a forested oasis located along the Black River in Washago. Owned and operated by Rama First Nation, this summertime market brings a wide variety of local growers, bakers, and artisans to showcase their one-of-a-kind, freshly-made and locally-sourced goods. Featuring 15+ vendors – including many first time vendors – shop and learn about local Indigenous art and jewelry, grab a sweet treat for the road or lunch from Jimmy Grillz pop-up stand, and don’t forget to pop into the park’s gift shop for an extra souvenir. If you’re looking to make a memorable day trip out of your visit, try purchasing $10 day pass to enjoy the entire campgrounds, from fun water activities on the black river to interpretive trail systems.
