Riverside Hideaway: Coldwater’s New Hometown Restaurant

A hearty home cooked meal of ribs, pasta, fish and chips and burgers is made even better by a waterfront view of the tranquil Coldwater River.

Riverside Hideaway is a family style restaurant that opened in the Coldwater Mill building in summer. Owners Pam and Marcel Venne lovingly renovated the space before opening to ensure a modern and cozy atmosphere while preserving the original spirit of the historic building.

The riverside patio is a real draw when the weather is fine. Guests can enjoy a coffee or meal outdoors and relax beside the river. Some have even spotted salmon running in the river in fall.

Riverside Hideaway offers fast, friendly service and tasty home cooked meals with flair. Fresh, local ingredients are featured on the menu. For example, the fish and chips are battered with a homemade recipe which includes Muskoka Cream Ale.

As the region’s only waterfront restaurant, the place has been doing very well despite the limitations posted by the pandemic.

For owner Pam Vanne, opening the restaurant is a dream come true. “I always dreamed of having my own restaurant,” she says. “I have worked in the hospitality industry for more than 15 years and have always enjoyed working with the public.”

Venne chose her location in Coldwater after careful consideration. “I did many visits to the town of Coldwater in the winter months and I visited each local shop. I found many of the community members to be very friendly and welcoming.  I loved the look of the old Mill building, and the view of the river from the patio. I knew that with a lot of hard work, I could make this into something really good.”

DIning at the Riverside Hideaway is a great opportunity to support local businesses. The prices are excellent and there is something on the menu for even the pickiest of eaters (ahem, children). The place feels homey and familiar, and as Venne explains “We hold true to the small town family restaurant theme that seems to be disappearing nowadays with corporate run restaurants opening everywhere. We welcome you to visit us soon!”
