Fun On The Water

For motorboat and personal watercraft enthusiasts in Orillia and Lake Country, nothing beats cutting through the sun-kissed waves of lakes Couchiching and Simcoe on a hot day. The two lakes are each known for recreational boating with Lake Simcoe also being a beacon for anglers and Lake Couchiching boasting a reputation for dropping the anchor and enjoying popular swim spots.

Boaters who make their way from lakes Simcoe or Couchiching to Georgian Bay will experience a world-class lock system as they travel through the historic Trent-Severn Waterway. Locks 42 – Couchiching, 43 – Swift Rapids, 44 – Big Chute Marine Railway (the only marine railway of its kind in North America) and 45 – Port Severn channel boats through the canal system between these lakes and Georgian Bay.

The significant canal, operated by Parks Canada, offers a number of amenities such as bathrooms and even camping at the sites, and are part of a much larger system that can literally take boaters anywhere in the world they want to go.

The Port of Orillia lives up to its moniker as the ‘Jewel of the Trent,’ and every summer thousands of boaters from eastern Canada and the United States take advantage of the state-of-the-art facility on their travels. Two-hundred-and-twenty transient boat slips with 50 and 30 amp service will allow pleasure craft of all sizes to moor between mid-May and Thanksgiving. The modern port offers washrooms with showers, laundry amenities and a boater lounge for paying guests, while fuel, pump-out facilities, LCBO, downtown shops and restaurants, 24-hour grocery store and a marine repair shop are nearby.

In Rama First Nation, Ojibway Bay Marina is a full service facility that can accommodate your seasonal or annual mooring requirements. This 5 anchor rated Clean Marine Certified Marina located on the Trent Severn Waterway provides convenient access to boating on Lake Couchiching, and Lake Simcoe, as well as the historic sites of Orillia. Transient Slips are available online along with Chief Island Mooring Permits.

For those travelling on Lake Simcoe, the Lagoon City Marina, just east of Orillia in Brechin, is also a full-service facility with mooring for boats of up to 60 feet. Amenities include covered and open slips, restaurant, laundry facilities, pool, hot tubs, sauna and cable TV.

Happy and safe boating!
