Celebrate Gordon Lightfoot’s Legacy at the Lightfoot Festival

This fall, music lovers have another reason to visit Orillia and Lake Country as the Lightfoot Festival returns October 29 to 31, 2026, celebrating the life, music and enduring legacy of one of Canada’s most beloved singer-songwriters: Gordon Lightfoot.

Born and raised in Orillia, Gordon Lightfoot never forgot his hometown — and his hometown has never forgotten him. From the songs that put Orillia on the musical map to the places that inspired his work, his connection to this community remains woven into the fabric of the region. The annual Lightfoot Festival in Orillia brings that connection to life through three days of music, storytelling, performances and opportunities to experience the legacy of a Canadian icon. Three Days of Music and Memories

The festival opens Thursday, October 29, at the Orillia Opera House, beginning with the official proclamation of Gordon Lightfoot Day at 7:25 p.m. The evening continues at 7:30 p.m. with The Lightfoot Band, featuring original members of Gordon’s longtime touring and recording band. The concert takes place in the Gordon Lightfoot Auditorium at 20 Mississaga Street West, offering fans an authentic opportunity to hear the musicians who shared the stage and studio with Gord for decades.

On Friday, October 30, the festival turns its attention to the next generation of musicians. At 1 p.m., Creative Nomad Studios, located at 23 Mississaga Street West, hosts the inaugural Youth Singing Competition & Lightfoot Band Presentation. Young performers up to age 18 will take the stage to perform a Gordon Lightfoot song of their choice, with top performers judged by members of The Lightfoot Band.

Friday evening brings Choir Revolution & Lightfoot Stories at 7 p.m. at Creative Nomad Studios. Guests can learn a Gordon Lightfoot song in harmony, join in a group performance and enjoy stories about Gord shared by special guests.

The celebration continues on Saturday, October 31, at Quayle’s Brewery, 4567 Line 12 North in Oro-Medonte. Throughout the day, guests can enjoy Lightfoot tribute performances featuring The High Steppin’ Strutters, Samantha Windover and the world premiere of new act Martin & Martin. The winners of Friday’s Youth Singing Competition will also perform, followed by a special cake cutting celebrating Gordon’s life. At 2 p.m., don’t miss the screening of Lightheaded: A Gordon Lightfoot State of Mind, a documentary exploring Gordon’s remarkable career and the devoted fans who continue to celebrate his music.
