Winter Activities

Looking to soak up more time in the snow with the kids? Try out these winter hot spots! 

Mount St. Louis Moonstone: Indulge the family in the ultimate winter experience. Mount St. Louis Moonstone is open each day from 9 am to 9 pm and offers 36 slopes and 3 terrain parks. If you’re new to the ski hills, check out one of the beginner packages to reserve your gear, access a lift ticket, and experience an hour-long group lesson at mountstlouis.com.

Horseshoe Resort: “Adventure lives at Horseshoe Resort!” Check out 28 varying ski or snowboard runs, test out Ontario’s longest snow tubing hill, explore the trails on a fat bike, with snowshoes, or by cross-country skis, and try out the outdoor skating rink at this all-encompassing resort. Activities are weather permitting, and gear rentals and lessons should be booked in advance. Indoor Sports & Games

Orillia Bowl: Sign the entire family up for some classic Sunshine City fun! Orillia Bowl‘s 5-pin, 18-lane alley is the perfect place to entertain the entire family, all night long. Check out glow-in-the-dark bowling nights Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 4 pm to 9 pm, or from Friday to Sunday, all day long. And don’t forget to fuel up on the delicious pizza, snacks, and refreshments offered at concessions.  

Cards and Coasters: For just $5 per person, you can choose from hundreds of both classic and modern board games hosted at Orillia’s favourite fun café, Cards and Coasters. Geek out over the creative sweet drinks and game night treats, and grab a souvenir from the merch shop before you head out. Kids and adults will love this fun, play-at-your-own-pace activity.  

Orillia Recreation Centre: Drop in at Orillia’s state-of-the-art Recreation Centre any day of the week to have some fun active time with the whole family. Try out the aquatics centre and choose from three pool areas with varying fun amenities, or try out the gymnasium, fitness rooms, indoor running track, and group sports activities. Roller Skating Place: Try out some wholesome fun for the whole family at ODAS parks Roller Skating Place. Entry is just $10 and includes skate rentals. The rink is open from Friday to Sunday, with select hours. Visit their website at therollarskatingplace.com to view current drop-in times, no pre-registration is required. 

Educational Experiences 

Scales Nature Park: For the curious minds in the family, Scales Nature Park is a fun, hands-on learning experience. Hang out with reptiles, fish, and amphibians, learn about their habitats, and discover preservation ideas you can use at home. Scales will be open for pre-booked tours only, visit their website at scalesnaturepark.ca to learn more. 

The Orillia Museum of Art & History is open for $5 walk-ins from Tuesday to Saturday, 11 am to 4 pm, with a number of both historical and art exhibits running. Visit orilliamuseum.org to look at what exhibits and events are featured this spring.

The Leacock Museum is open with a brand-new exhibit lighting up the sunroom, A Leacock Love Story. Entry is $5 per person, available for pre-booked self-guided tours from Wednesday to Friday, 10 am to 4 pm. Learn more at leacockmuseum.ca. 

Tripvia Tours: Available on your app store for free, Tripvia Tours offers three free walking tours of Orillia. Explore Historical Downtown, see the sights on The Millennium Trail, or take a tour of the beautiful “Old Brewery Bay” grounds at the Leacock Museum.

The sweetest season in Orillia & Lake Country has begun! Over 20 participants have joined the celebratory maple event this year, offering visitor experiences that include everything from interactive tapping and producing tours to shopping and dining.
