A taste of Orillia’s foodie scene

A taste of Orillia’s foodie scene

Orillia’s culinary scene has become a powerhouse in creativity in recent years. If you’re a foodie seeking an exciting new adventure for your palate, look no further than the Sunshine City. We’ve rounded up a few of the many restaurants that have been making a buzz in the region to help get you started on Orillia’s food map.

The eclectic styles of Melanie Robinson

Eclectic Café isn’t just known for being the brainchild of Chopped Canada’s 2015 winner, Chef Melanie Robinson, but also for being one of Orillia’s most delicious and welcoming hangout spots. When it comes to being a foodie who wants to kick back and relax during the dining experience, Eclectic Café does it best. Sift through the ever-changing inspired menu for sophisticated and explosive flavour combinations while relaxing in the laid-back, friendly vibe of the café. The ingredients are fresh and locally sourced, while the menu is both creative and accessible to every kind of diner.

If you’re looking for a unique dining experience while you stay, you can check out Melanie’s other successful endeavor through Melanie Robinson Catering. Reserving a night out in one of Glen Oro Farm’s luxurious private glamping suites gives you the option to have one of Chef Melanie’s specialty meal boxes delivered directly to your forest oasis. Choose from a brunch or dinner menu, or order in one of Melanie’s charcuterie boxes to share.

Farm-to-table at The Common Stove

The Common Stove, Orillia’s wildly popular rustic steakhouse, reflects a similar balance between fine dining and a comfortable setting. “Fire, smoke, and good folk” is the restaurant’s famous slogan, reflecting that signature smokey flavour – courtesy of their famous wood-fired grill – and the friendly, welcoming service from the dining staff. A proudly certified #FeastON member, The Common Stove focuses heavily on sourcing the freshest, locally grown ingredients in support of Ontario’s agricultural industry.

Similarly known for a competitive edge in the culinary world, Head Chef Ben Kersley’s skills have led him to be named one of the Top 30 Under 30 award winners within the hospitality industry in 2021, and his inspired menus are no surprise why. If you’re planning a visit ahead of time, keep an eye out on The Common Stove socials for announcements on upcoming late-night events with specialty food and drink menus set to impress even the most experienced foodies.

Wine, music, and gourmet delectables at PICNIC Tapas & Wine Bar

If you’re looking for an all-encompassing dining experience with delicious food, good vibes, and fun late-night events, look no further than The Common Stove’s sister restaurant, PICNIC Tapas and Wine Bar. Described as an “old-world tapas bar and grocer,” Picnic offers a stylish and unique setting in downtown Orillia’s after-hours scene. Inspired by an array of European cooking styles, Picnic’s menu is meant to be tasted, shared, and enthused over with a group of pals.

When it comes to events, Picnic is one of the dominating music and social venues. Try Wednesday night Wine Club for a fun speakeasy-style tasting event or drop into the Sunday Show where each week features a live artist.

A taste of culture at FARE Restaurant

On the shores of “Old Brewery Bay,” FARE’s popular waterfront views are only rivaled by the culinary styles of the restaurant’s Head Chef, Kalvin Sherry. Each seasonal FARE menu remains inspired by combining worldly flavours with Ontario’s freshest produce. Though the food and the views are impressive, the setting remains welcoming and comfortable to all visitors. And, if you’re a history buff, the restaurant’s shared location with the Leacock Museum National Historic Site makes for the ideal cultural day trip.

If you’re looking to curb a craving for some gourmet brunch, visit Sunday STN, also owned and operated by the FARE team. Sunday STN is the perfect place to indulge in a traditional breakfast spread with a creative flair.

A perfect blend at Chachu’s

Brand new to the Orillia lineup, Toronto’s famous Pakistani-Canadian fusion chain restaurant has expanded its locations to include a new residency off the shores of Lake Couchiching. A prime location just steps away from waterfront accommodations, downtown Orillia’s shopping and entertainment scene, and Couchiching Beach Park’s lakeside amenities, Chachu’s is a must-stop for a delicious grab-and-go meal.

Whether you like it hot, mild, or somewhere in between, Chachu’s perfects the blend between authentic Pakistani flavours and cooking styles with signature Canadian toppings and dressings to cater to every kind of palate. The service is friendly, fast, and will surprise you with just how good it tastes.
