What Are the Ontario Winter Games?
The Ontario Winter Games are a bi-annual province-wide multi-sport event that gives young athletes (ages 12-18) the chance to compete in winter sport disciplines while experiencing the community energy of a large-scale sporting celebration. Close to 2,800 participants are expected to compete across the two weekends of the Games. This is a developmental stepping stone for Ontario’s future sport stars – many athletes use the Games as a platform to progress toward national and international competition.

The Orillia 2026 Ontario Winter Games will take place over two weekends acroos Orillia, Oro-Medonte, Rama First Nation, Severn and surrounding area:

Opening Ceremonies
The Orillia 2026 Ontario Winter Games kick off with two outdoor Opening Ceremonies – one for each weekend of the competition:

Downtown Orillia will be the backdrop of the Opening Ceremonies. This lively area known for its walkable heritage streets, arts scene, diverse culinary offerings and boutique shops becomes a central hub of celebration during the games. Here is what makes downtown Orillia so special:
Historic Main Streets – The core of Orillia’s downtown features beautifully preserved heritage buildings that house local cafes, galleries, shops and restaurants. Strolling through this area gives visitors a classic small-city Canadian winter vibe.
Orillia Arts District – A lively neighbourhood packed with public art installations, performance spaces and cultural experiences, all steps away from the ceremony site.
Gathering Spaces – The ceremonies are designed to be community-friendly, outdoor celebrations with live entertainment, music and athlete introductions, giving everyone a chance to cheer, connect and welcome the Games to Orillia with pride.
Because the Opening Ceremonies are outdoors, attendees are ecouraged to bundle up for winter conditions, enjoy live performances from local talent and soak up the infectious energy as young athletes from across Ontario are officially welcomed.
