This weekend marks the return of some much-awaited cultural events in Orillia & Lake Country, along with some exciting new waterfront activities. If you’re looking for ways to finish off your summer with a bang, look no further than these family-friendly festivals.
Starry Night Studio & Gallery Tour
Downtown Orillia
Saturday, August 26 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
This unique cultural event is a must for those looking to catch a behind-the-scenes look at the Sunshine City’s famous art scene. Returning to downtown Orillia this August 26, Starry Night invites visitors to explore the Orillia Arts District’s studio and gallery spaces during evening street closures. Over a dozen venues will be featured, with artists of varying mediums putting their work on display.
Starry Night Studio & Gallery Tour has been a late-summer staple for a number of years, and this year brings a unique collaboration with two main downtown Orillia events: The See You on the Patio program and the Streets Alive Festival. See You on the Patio brings street closures to the downtown core to make room for extended patios and late-night shopping at participating stores. Streets Alive Festival – an annual public art program – presents over 60 hand-painted sculptures throughout the downtown core. This year’s theme is “A Painter Passing Through,” a tribute to folk legend and Orillia native, Gordon Lightfoot.

Rama Powwow
John Snake Multipurpose Grounds, Rama First Nation

One of the largest and proudest pow wows in the province, the annual Rama Powwow is the not-to-be-missed cultural celebration of the summer. Live music, dance, and plenty of entertainment kick off Saturday and continue throughout the weekend. Over $70,000 prizes are up for grabs within various competitions and age groups, and a variety of local talented craft and artisan vendors will be on display.
Don’t forget to graze the mouthwatering food stalls while you enjoy some vibrant entertainment in the heart of Rama First Nation.

This fun-filled Port of Orillia event will offer all the great tunes you could ask for, with some exciting interactive games and prizes taking place throughout the day. Located at Orillia’s prime waterfront destination, Port of Orillia events are a great way to soak up some sun, take in some breathtaking views, and indulge in some good old-fashioned fun.
