For 40 years, the Orillia Concert Band has been bringing music, memories, and community spirit to audiences across the region. Founded in 1986 by Stan Passfield and led by founding conductor Bob Plunkett, the band has grown into a beloved local institution, known for its high musical standards and its dedication to sharing live music with the community. Over the years, the band has evolved under the leadership of conductors including Roy Menagh, James Hilts, and current music director Randy Hoover, while continuing to inspire audiences and musicians of all ages.

Today, the band is made up of approximately 45 members ranging in age from 16 to 81, proving that a love of music truly spans generations. Throughout the year, the group presents a variety of performances including benefit concerts, Christmas concerts, spring and winter performances, and summer appearances in the park. Beyond the stage, the band also supports local causes and entertains audiences in retirement and long-term care homes, making them an important part of Orillia’s cultural fabric.

The milestone 40th anniversary concert will take place on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at St. Paul’s Centre. The evening promises to be a celebration of both music and history, with all three surviving past conductors returning to lead pieces of their choice. Audiences can also expect special recognition of the band’s roots, including the attendance of the Plunkett family in honour of Bob Plunkett’s legacy. It will be a night filled with familiar faces, memorable performances, and a tribute to four decades of making music together.
