Explore the Quaint Charm & Rugged Beauty of Washago

Washago is a slice of scenic Severn, filled with small town charm. Conveniently located off of Highways 11 and 169 in the Township of Severn, Washago is an easy stop with plenty to offer.

Rugged, Natural Beauty

Nestled at the top of Lake Couchiching, where it flows into the Severn River, Washago is where the landscape starts to get beautifully rugged. Rocky cliffs, meet dark meandering rivers flanked with windswept pines. Paddle the Black, Green or Severn Rivers. Enjoy the sandy beach, playground and pavilion at Centennial Park on Lake Couchiching. Here you can also launch your boat, with ample parking. Or head over the the Albany Street Public Dock to drop in your canoe or kayak and take in the serene views of the Green River.

Downtown Charm

Downtown Washago is full of charm and hidden gems. There are several options for delicious eats and tasty treats. At Kim’s Kitchen you will find freshly made Asian fusion served in a cute log cabin. Enjoy fine fare in an elegant atmosphere at Silver Birch. Dishes such as Cab Short Ribs and Duck Leg Confit are sure to impress. Head to Scoopz for a sweet treat. Choose from all your favourite Kawartha Dairy Ice Cream Flavours alongside an amazing selection of locally made chocolates.

Canoe Fresh Food Market is a stop you won’t want to miss. Their cafe serves up all your favourite espresso beverages along with a delectable selection of housemade baked goods. At the deli find hot and fresh pizza, sandwiches and a wide variety of ready to serve meals. Canoe is also a great stop for all your grocery needs. With quality cuts of meat, fresh fruits and vegetables and more, they have everything you need for a weekend at the cottage.

Tucked away just off the main drag, don’t miss the Washago Art Gallery. Housed in a charming log cabin, the gallery showcases one-of-a-kind creations from the Artists of the Washago Arts Club, including paintings, pottery, glasswork and more. The gallery is open through Thanksgiving Weekend.

Just Outside of Town

A couple of other spots in the area you may want to check out are Blue Moon Junction and The Sando Shack. Blue Moon Junction is known for its fresh homestyle fare and warm, rustic atmosphere. Meanwhile, The Sando Shack, located along the scenic Trent-Severn Waterway at Lock 42, serves up stacked sandwiches and local craft beer from Couchiching Brewery.
