Tourism Spotlight: Horseback Riding & Stargazer Domes: Visiting Glen Oro Farm

As part of our on-going Tourism Spotlight Series we recently visited Glen Oro Farm in Oro-Medonte. Glen Oro Farm is a glamping eco-retreat and horse farm that gives guests the opportunity to sleep in stunning new stargazer domes. Guests can enjoy horseback trail rides and explore majestic natural scenery during the day then gaze up at the Milky Way as they fall asleep at night.

Scenic Trail Rides

Glen Oro’s boutique trail rides are perfect for family adventures, girlfriend getaways, date nights or solo excursions. Glen Oro welcomes guests of all skill levels to its trail rides, which include the opportunity to groom and saddle up their horse – if they choose – and learn about the ancient art of horseback riding. Guests can disconnect from the stresses of modern life and enjoy a peaceful 2.5 hour adventure through the maple clad slopes of the Oro-Medonte ecosystem.

Glen Oro Farm’s Luke Sedgwick explains the benefits of riding here: “The motion of being on a horse walking has been shown to lower blood pressure and reduce anxiety. On a trail ride here it’s not uncommon to see some of the wild residents of Glen Oro, such as deer, coyotes, rabbits, foxes, turkeys, and occasionally even the odd bear. ”

Helmets and boots are provided as needed. Book now to get a spot for fall!

Stargazer Domes & Settler’s Tents

Excitement has been building for Glen Oro’s brand new stargazer domes. These awe-inspiring structures allow guests to sleep under a canopy of stars and submerge themselves in a rich forest environment, all while sleeping in style! The stargazer domes are outfitted with indoor washrooms and cooking facilities, along with a king size loft bed situated directly under a large skylight.

Glen Oro Farm also offers overnight accommodation in luxury glamping tents designed to offer a modern twist on the Victorian settler’s experience of the past. The Settler’s Tents, also set in the rich Oro-Medonte forest, are outfitted with chic decor and modern amenities.

All overnight guests get the opportunity to learn about sustainable food production in the farm’s vegetable gardens and harvest, become more versed in horsemanship (Glen Oro has over two dozen horses) and savour the tranquility that comes from fully immersing oneself in the natural environment of the forest. Visitors here can also enjoy Orillia & Lake Country’s local patios, breweries, outdoor activities and more.

Come experience glamping and horseback riding at its finest! For more information visit the Glen Oro Farm website.
