The Spring edition of the Orillia Repair Cafe will take place on Saturday April 18 from 11-3PM at St James Anglican Church in downtown Orillia.
This is a free community event hosted by Sustainable Orillia. It brings together volunteers and attendees to repair various items, promoting sustainability and reducing waste. The event is held twice a year, with skilled volunteers attempting repairs on a wide range of items. The goal is to encourage repair over replacement, leading to conservation of resources and a reduction in carbon emissions. The atmosphere is vibrant and positive; light refreshments and snacks are provided and children can participate in supervised activities. The event is free to attend, while donations are gratefully accepted to cover event costs.
The list below includes suggestions of what we can try to fix or mend based on the volunteers who are available for this event. This is by no means an exhaustive list and, as always, we cannot guarantee that repairs are possible.
Sewing – basic mending, no major alterations. Need to bring your own zippers and may need other supplies to complete the repair.
Household items / small appliances – lamps, blenders, coffee grinders, etc.
Electronics – CD / DVD / stereo
Jewellery
Technology (computers, mobile devices, etc) and Software (email help, tech questions, password recovery, updates etc)
Carpentry / Furniture / Wooden items
Instruments – change strings, tuning, some basic repairs and troubleshooting
Bicycles – basic tune up / repairs, bring your own tube
Pain Management – mini Biofield Tuning treatments
Guests are invited to bring one item at a time and stay on site while their item is being repaired; additional items must go through the registration process separately.
Depending on the item and the timing, there may be a long wait so please come prepared 🙂
The event also features:
Book swap – bring one / take one! (feel free to take books even if you have none to swap!)
Kids area – an all-ages space, offering a vegetable-seed planting activity, with seeds, soil, pots and guidance provided.
Light refreshments
NEW: an Upcycling Workshop presented by Stella B Designs. BYO thrifted or already-owned clothing items to “refresh with style”.
