Adventure Day in Oro-Medonte

Adventure Day in Oro-Medonte

Article by: Brennan Moxey

This summer Ontario’s Lake Country, Tourism Barrie, and Heart of Georgian Bay have partnered up to explore and experience some awesome activities and places in our region. Stay tuned for our new blogs and Adventure Days part 2, but for now let’s get into the summer fun.

We had a lot planned for this summer adventure day and our first stop was Hardwood Ski and Bike. We lucked out on the weather conditions, it was supposed to rain but mother nature was good to us, as it was gorgeous all day. We arrived at 10am at Hardwood and were all very excited for this jam-packed day. The first activity our group participated in was a Segway tour with Go Tours Hardwood.

As a group we were all very eager to start this Segway adventure. We started off with a brief introduction to the equipment and a quick lesson on how to operate the Segway and then you are on your way. Once you get the hang of the Segway you may find yourself spinning in circles. (Trust me, we all did it)

Moving on to the actual adventure we ventured through the forest on some beautiful trails which offered several amazing photo opportunities. At Hardwood Segway you have the option for an hour tour (which we did) or a half an hour tour. Overall the full hour tour is a better experience because it gives you more time to use the Segway and enjoy the view from the lookout.

“The lookout” provides spectacular views over Oro-Medonte’s expansive forests and hills. On the return trip you get to go up and down several hills which creates a memorable high energy experience. Not to mention the high energy and personable tour guides that guided us our way through the forest.

After the segway tour it was time to check out some of the fun activities at Hardwood Ski and Bike. These included human foosball, disc golf, and a mountain bike tour. As a group it was our first time playing human foosball and all-together a fun experience. Perfect, if you have a large group of friends or family.

Next was disc golf. Disc golf was very enjoyable and surprisingly very challenging. The course is well marked with clear signage, suitable for all ages, and very affordable at 9 holes for $5.

Time for some mountain biking. We got outfitted with our bikes and given a short tutorial on how to properly use a mountain bike, gear shifting, going down a hill and over obstacles. After the short introduction we were on our way to the trails. Before you knew it, we were biking along a beginner’s trail through a landscape of mature forest and small hills.

After our mountain bike tour, Segway tour, and fun and games at Hardwood Ski and Bike our group was feeling a little bit hungry, so what other place to go then nearby Horseshoe Resort’s Crazy Horse Sports Bar and Grill. This restaurant provides visitors with a stunning view of the Horseshoe resort ski hill while offering some tasty food. It was the perfect ending to our first Adventure Day.
