FSO’s Water Ramp Grand Opening!
Join Freestyle Skiing Ontario to celebrate a monumental development for the sport of freestyle skiing and growth for athletes in the Province of Ontario.
On Saturday, June 18th, FSO will proudly unveil its world-class water ramp project at Horseshoe Resort in Oro-Medonte, Ontario. This water ramp project has been made possible through the $150,000 investment made by the Ontario Trillium Foundation, as well as FSO’scommunity partners. This is an important day for FSO as this day marks the change in the way we train and develop athletes in Ontario. To celebrate this memorable day, we’re hosting a 9-hole Golf Tournament on the Valley Course and we will also be recognizing the achievements of our Provincial Athletes with a celebratory BBQ Athletic Banquet and Silent Auction.
The development of Freestyle Skiing in Ontario includes the expansion of this Water Ramp Project to enhance all levels of freestyle skiing athletes in the province. FSO Executive Director, Jeff Ord, is excited for the change the water ramps will bring, “The ramps will allow freestyle skiing athletes to safely work on their acrobatics training year round within Ontario, something that they have not been able to do for over 20 years!” He also mentions the economic benefits for athletes and their families adding, “Athletes can now increase the frequency and duration of training in Ontario with reduced costs because they no longer to travel for summertime acrobatics training.”
Exactly how athletes will use and benefit from the Water Ramp facility is easily explained by Ord, “The water ramps are a full service ski/snowboard summertime acrobatic training tool offering 2 trampolines and two jumps into the pond. Athletes will attend daily sessions that include trampoline training and water ramp jumping. Firstly, to hone their skills on the trampoline under the supervision of a qualified coach and then taking those skills to the water ramp with complete ski gear. Athletes wear skis, boots, helmets, life jackets and sometimes wetsuits, as they slide down the artificial snow surface and off jumps, where they safely land in water. This facility allows athletes to practice and perfect their acrobatic maneuvers before taking them to snow in the winter season.”
FSO would like to thank its generous supporters for their dedication in supporting Freestyle Skiing in Ontario: Ontario Trillium Foundation, Druxy’s Famous Deli, Avison Young, Line Skis, and Corbetts Ski & Snowboards Shop.
We hope you’ll join us for a day of sun and social on the golf course, commemorative awards, and an incredible silent auction that will add a fundraising flair to what will be a memorable day for Freestyle Skiing Ontario, its athletes and families. The cost is $75 per ticket and includes Golf & BBQ Banquet. For more details and to purchase tickets to enjoy this event: www.ontariofreestyle.com.
