SUMMARY:Orillia Repair Cafe
DESCRIPTION:The first Repair Café was organized in Amsterdam in 2009 and the concept soon became a global movement\, expanding to over 40 countries on six continents\, with over 3\,200 Repair Cafés in operation. The goal of these events is to encourage repair of items\, rather than discarding them and purchasing replacements. The result is conservation of resources and a reduction of waste and carbon emissions. \nVolunteers with varied skills and experience are the driving force behind this unique event. \nOrillia’s Repair Café fosters a sense of community by bringing people together to share knowledge and skills. The atmosphere is vibrant and positive. Once visitors are registered and directed to the appropriate station\, they are engaged in the repair process: learning valuable skills\, gaining confidence in their own abilities\, and appreciating the benefits of repair and re-use. \nWhen an item is repaired\, the success is celebrated with cheering\, and a record is kept of the weight of each item—an indication of the amount of “waste” not sent to landfill. \nIf replacement parts are needed to repair an item\, they must be purchased by the attendee. Otherwise\, there is no cost to have an item repaired. Donations are gratefully accepted\, however\, to cover other costs of the event. Light refreshments and snacks are provided. \nThe Fall 2026 event takes place on Saturday October 17 at St James Anglican Church\, 58 Peter St N\, Orillia. Registration begins at 11:00 am and closes at 2:30 pm. \nThis is a family event: children are welcome\, and encouraged\, to attend. A supervised Kids’ Table will provide activities with a repair and sustainability theme\, focusing on the fun of learning new skills and examining tools and hardware. New for our most recent event\, as another aspect of the circular economy\, are book swaps: one for adults and one for children.

DESCRIPTION:The Board of Directors of the rebranded Lightfoot Festival\, formally known as Lightfoot Days Festival\, are very pleased to announce that this year’s festival will be held October 29th\, 30th and 31st\, 2026\, in the hometown of Canada’s very own\, Gordon Lightfoot. \nGordon’s musical accomplishments brought him Grammy nominations\, Juno Awards\, Songwriting awards\, and recognition on Canada’s Walk of Fame\, just to name a few. \n“We are excited to announce that The Lightfoot Band will be our headliners this year\, performing at the famed Orillia Opera House\, in the Lightfoot Auditorium on Thursday October 29th\, at 7:30pm\,” said John Winchester\, President of the Board. \nAfter Gordon’s death in 2023\, his band decided to continue to share his songs. These are the seasoned musicians who not only collaborated with Gordon on his recordings\, they toured extensively with him across North America and internationally. \n“I was with Gordon for 48 years\, touring and recording\,” says drummer Barry Keane. “It’s the songs that people love\,” says Keane\, noting the band plays the hits\, as well as some deeper cuts. \n“We’re playing the songs the way we played them with Gordon\,” says Keane. “We all consider it a privilege to be able to do what we’re doing\,” he says. \nAfter the show\, be sure to join the band for a meet and greet session on the main floor. \nWe are excited to announce that this year’s ticket prices are $68.00 for all floor seats\, $50.00 for all balcony seats and we are very pleased to announce that all youth 18 and under\, are $18.00. With a mix of trails\, rolling hills\, and beautiful fall colours\, it’s the perfect setting for a fall weekend getaway! \nRace Events \n1KM Small Steps – Big impact\nA relaxed\, family-friendly 1KM paved route for runners and walkers of all ages. Strollers\, dogs\, and accessible equipment are welcome! $5 from each entry will be donated to YouthReach\, a local charity helping kids access sports\, camps\, dance\, and other enriching programs. \n5KM trail Run\nTake on the Horseshoe Valley Hustle 5KM\, a challenging and rewarding trail run through forested single-track\, rolling hills\, and technical terrain. Perfect for runners new to trail racing or those looking for a fast\, fun off-road challenge. \n10KM trail Run\nThe ultimate test of grit and endurance! The 10KM event features two full loops of our rugged trail course\, with steep climbs\, descents\, and technical sections throughout. Designed for experienced trail runners or those ready to push themselves further. \n8-hour endurance challenge\nThe headline event of the day\, the 8-Hour Endurance Challenge\, pushes runners to see how far they can go in eight hours on our scenic and demanding 5KM loop course. Race solo or team up in a relay of 2\, 4\, or 8 runners and chase as many laps as possible before time runs out.
