SUMMARY:Orillia Repair Cafe - Spring 2026 edition
DESCRIPTION:The Spring edition of the Orillia Repair Cafe will take place on Saturday April 18 from 11-3PM at St James Anglican Church in downtown Orillia. \nThis is a free community event hosted by Sustainable Orillia. It brings together volunteers and attendees to repair various items\, promoting sustainability and reducing waste. The event is held twice a year\, with skilled volunteers attempting repairs on a wide range of items. The goal is to encourage repair over replacement\, leading to conservation of resources and a reduction in carbon emissions. The atmosphere is vibrant and positive; light refreshments and snacks are provided and children can participate in supervised activities. The event is free to attend\, while donations are gratefully accepted to cover event costs. \nThe list below includes suggestions of what we can try to fix or mend based on the volunteers who are available for this event. This is by no means an exhaustive list and\, as always\, we cannot guarantee that repairs are possible. \nSewing – basic mending\, no major alterations. Need to bring your own zippers and may need other supplies to complete the repair.\nHousehold items / small appliances – lamps\, blenders\, coffee grinders\, etc.\nElectronics – CD / DVD / stereo\nJewellery\nTechnology (computers\, mobile devices\, etc) and Software (email help\, tech questions\, password recovery\, updates etc)\nCarpentry / Furniture / Wooden items\nInstruments – change strings\, tuning\, some basic repairs and troubleshooting\nBicycles – basic tune up / repairs\, bring your own tube\nPain Management – mini Biofield Tuning treatments \nGuests are invited to bring one item at a time and stay on site while their item is being repaired; additional items must go through the registration process separately.\nDepending on the item and the timing\, there may be a long wait so please come prepared 🙂 \nThe event also features:\nBook swap – bring one / take one! Bob’s family will be attending in force on May 2. We will have all 3 of our remaining past conductors with usand each one will be leading us through a piece of their choice. Of course our own Randy Hoover will be at the helm. Randy will join the trumpet section while Stan Passfield conducts us\, then Roy Menagh\, and then James Hilts. Our repertoire will include some compositions by Orillia’s very own\, much-loved\nSuds Sutherland. Christina Bosco will be our soloist and our MC! \nThe St. Paul’s Pub Committee will be making refreshments available (cash only) before and after the concert\, and during intermission.
