Georgian Bay Forever (GBF) will be hosting a community cut event to help remove invasive phragmites from Matchedsah Bay!
Phragmites is an invasive plant that has the ability to grow rapidly into tall, dense monocultures and outcompete native vegetation along shorelines and wetlands. Invasive phragmites has been itching its way into Matchedash Bay putting it at risk for immense biodiversity loss.
The event will involve working outside so bring water and dress appropriately. Water shoes, rubber boots or hip/chest waders are recommended as we will be in the water. GBF will provide some tools, but feel free to bring tools from home such as pruners, snippers and rakes. We will have a team of people in the water cutting and a team of people collecting the biomass and disposing of it in a particular location.
If the forecast is predicting thunderstorms, the event will be rescheduled.
Location: Swift Canoe and Kayak 3048 Mayhew Road, Waubaushene, ON L0K
